Restylane SILK is the newest FDA approved hyaluronic acid filler to the Restylane family of products. This product is a thinner particle than the original Restylane (mid range particle used in the nasal labial folds and marionette lines) and Restylane Lyft (larger particle that is used to add volume to a larger area like cheeks.) Restylane SILK is ideal for pucker/smoker/lipstick lines (perioral lines) and adding a more hydrated look to lips. Restylane SILK is a smaller particle and thinner product, an ultra fine needle is used. Since the lips are one of the most sensitive areas of the face, the lidocaine in this product makes the treatment a more comfortable experience. The results are immediate!
One treatment of Restylane SILK should last 6-9 months and sometimes up to a year. Individual results vary, but some studies show that hyaluronic acid stimulates your own collagen to grow where the filler is injected. In the FDA trial for Restylane SILK, of 221 patients, 98% had visible improvements 14 days after injection, and 76 % of patients still had results a 6 months.
Restylane SILK is FDA approved (on label) for the perioral lines around the lips. It is also used to add a more hydrated look to lips, but can be also used off label for other fine lines in the face such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and add volume to brows and upper eyelids.
Effort is made to make this treatment as comfortable as possible. Ice is used to numb the area, and the lidocaine in Restylane SILK quickly numb the area treated. Most people find this treatment very tolerable and no dental block is needed.
